Frequently asked questions
Which parts of California do you serve?
Bayshore Electrical Services & Design takes calls from every region of California, from the Bay Area and Sacramento Valley to Los Angeles, the Inland Empire and San Diego County. Use the locations page to find your city.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency service?
Yes. Call (888) 633-7804 any time for a burning smell, sparking outlet, loss of power or a breaker that will not reset. See our emergency electrician page for what to do while you wait.
My breaker keeps tripping. What should I do?
Unplug what's on the circuit and reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call. The cause is usually an overload, a short or a ground fault, and our electrical repair team will find which.
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Warning signs include frequent trips, a full panel, fuses instead of breakers, or plans to add an EV charger, solar or air conditioning. A load calculation settles the question. Read more about electrical panel upgrades.
Can you install a Tesla or other Level 2 EV charger?
Yes, for every major brand. We check panel capacity, pull the permit and install the circuit and charger. See EV charger installation.
Is old wiring dangerous?
Knob-and-tube, aluminum and cloth-insulated wiring each carry risks as they age. An electrical inspection tells you the condition, and rewiring can be done in stages.
Should I get a generator or a battery?
Generators run as long as they have fuel. Batteries are silent and recharge from solar. Compare generator installation with solar and battery backup.
Do you work on commercial buildings?
Yes. Offices, retail, restaurants, warehouses and light industrial sites. See commercial electrician services.
How many recessed lights does a room need?
Roughly one for every four to six feet of ceiling, adjusted for height and use. Our lighting installation page covers layout, dimmers and LED choices.
Where are GFCI outlets required?
Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, garages, basements, crawl spaces and outdoors. See outlet and switch installation and kitchen and bathroom electrical.
Can you wire a hot tub or spa?
Yes. Most need a 240-volt GFCI-protected circuit with an outdoor disconnect. See dedicated circuits and hot tub wiring.
Do I need whole house surge protection?
If you own appliances with electronic controls, an EV charger or solar, it is inexpensive insurance. See whole house surge protection.
Can you replace chirping smoke alarms?
Yes. Alarms past ten years should be replaced. See smoke detector and doorbell wiring.
Do you install smart switches and video doorbells?
Yes, including adding neutral wires and transformers that older homes lack. See smart home wiring.
Do you install ceiling fans and outdoor lighting?
Both. See ceiling fan installation and outdoor lighting installation.
How do I get a quote?
Call (888) 633-7804. Small jobs are usually priced on site before work begins. Larger projects, such as new electrical installations or a whole-home upgrade, get a written quote after a site visit.
